A primary school in Northampton has been closed for three days because it has no heating or hot water.

Parents of pupils at Kings Heath Primary School have been told to keep their children at home until Friday as the lack of heating poses a “health and safety issue” for children and adults on the site.

On a letter posted on the school’s website, headteacher Alison Hawkes and chair of governors Alan Killman have vowed to make the “strongest complaint” to the appropriate people at Northampton Schools Limited and Amey, the companies responsible for providing heating and hot water services to the school.

The letter states that work was supposed to take place at the school to fix some problems in the Plant Room during the half term holiday but this had not been completed by Monday morning.

The letter states: “As a result we have had no heating and limited hot water today in some parts of school. This is obviously not desirable given the current weather conditions and presents a health and safety issue for the children and adults on the site.

“We have just been informed by Northampton Schools Limited and Amey, who are responsible for providing these services to the school, that they cannot fix the problems today and, as a result, we will continue to have no hot water or heating for the next three days.

“We apologise for this interruption to your child’s education which is beyond our control. We will be making the strongest complaint to the appropriate people.”
