A teenager was beaten up after he stole a man’s hat in a misjudged prank that went wrong.

The 17-year-old was attacked in St Giles Terrace, in Northampton town centre on Sunday night, when he played a practical joke on someone he knew.

The teenage victim snatched his hat before running off.

The man whose hat it was took exception, however, then chased after him and assaulted him.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have been in St Giles Terrace, between 8pm and 9pm on Sunday, if they witnessed the incident.

The attacker was white, in his mid 20s, around 5ft 8ins and of stocky build. He had short brown hair, a beard and multiple piercings in his nose, lip and ears.

He also has tattoos on his neck, arms and leg.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information regarding it.
