Trei Hutchinson and CJ Charteris were on top form as Titans proved too strong for Leicester Blaze in the EBL Under 14 Boys Midlands Conference, winning 80-48.

In a match that didn’t prove to test the squad even without the regular contribution from starting point guard Keenan Salmon, the Titans were able to comfortably win three of the four quarters.

It seems however that coach Clarke will be forced to concentrate on the issues his team are having from the foul line in the coming training sessions, after managing only six from 22, and a lowly 10 per cent in the first half.

The first quarter saw the boys in purple start to pull away with Hutchinson and Hayden Alcindor dominating the baskets at both ends of the floor (quarter score 22-8).

The second quarter was the same story except the scoring was dominated by Charteris and his impressive jump shot.

The two teams doubled the score by half time going into the locker room 44-16.

The bench rotated more fully in the second half allowing all to shine.

Two back-to-back baskets from rookie Tom Weatherspoon, some much improved defence from Tom Smithers and some well-timed three-point shooting from point guard Jordan ‘Mcgoo’ Mcgee aided the Titans’, once again impressive performance.

The game ended 80-48. Top scorers were Hutchinson (17), Charteris (16) and Mcgee (10).

The boys travel to Derby this weekend to take on the Trailblazers.

An intense and improved performance from the Titans kept ahead of a team higher up the table, even when big man James had to go off for a shower mid game.

The result reflected how all the players gelled together for this impressive win.

A morale-boosting victory was all that was needed for the Titans and that was produced against Trafford on Sunday morning.

High energy defence led to good offense through the first half as Titans limited Trafford’s scoring to 17 points to their 45.

A stronger third quarter saw the Titans go on a 16 point streak showing a good understanding of their offensive plays.

The victory pushed them to third in the league table with Timi Gril leading the team scoring with 19 points.

Their next league game is in two weeks when they meet unbeaten top of the table Notts Nova
