Northampton Town keen on sending young striker out on loan

Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed he has no plans to make any loan additions to his squad before Thursday’s 5pm deadline but will try to send forward Lewis Wilson out for ‘some football’.

Any deal to take Wilson away from Sixfields to a non-league club could be done after Thursday because the loan window does not apply to players being registered by clubs outside of the Football League.

Wilson has made eight appearances for the first team this season, the best of which came as a right-winger in the FA Cup first-round replay at Bradford City.

The 19-year-old was signed primarily as a striker though, and Boothroyd wants him to go out and play in that position, in which he scored his only goal for Town in last season’s 1-1 draw with Gillingham.

“There will be no incomings, I’m happy with where we are until January,” he said. “There might be an outgoing or two - I’m hoping we can get Lewis Wilson out and get him some football.

“I feel sorry for Lewis, he’s played so many different positions and has hardly played his own one, when he did play it he scored.

“So I’m hoiping we can get him out to play some football because he’s at a stage where he needs to get some games in.

“I think we’ve got the depth now that we can work with just to get us through the next few games.”
