Cameron White will return to the County Ground for a second stint after signing a short-term deal for the Twenty20 group stage.

The Australian, who was the club’s standout performer last year in what was a dismal effort in the shortest format, has put pen to paper on a contract that covers the 10 group fixtures.

White’s addition will be a significant boost to David Ripley’s squad who have stated that a dramatic improvement in limited overs form and results is one of their top priorities.

And the head coach is hoping that the 29-year-old can again make a significant contribution.

He said: “Cameron wanted to come back here and it’s good to have him.

“Hopefully he can do the same as he did last year and if he does that would be ideal.

“A strike rate of over 130 showed what he is capable of and if we can offer more support then I think we can get more out of him.”

And Ripley wants White to add some value in other areas as well.

He added: “I want to try and make more use of him than we did last year.

“He’s got a lot of experience and a good cricket brain. You don’t captain Australia for no reason and he can definitely add something there.”

With White filling one of the overseas berths, there is space for a second solely for the Twenty20 but it is unlikely that will be filled in the immediate future.
