Officers were recognised for their bravery, hard work and long service last night at the first of two force awards organised by Northamptonshire Police.

The ceremony was held at force Headquarters hosted by Chief Constable Adrian Lee, with the second to be held tonight.

Across the two nights, 44 officers and five police staff will be congratulated for long service and 27 officers and staff for outstanding work.

Each ceremony is a mixture of long service and annual award presentations.

Last night, the Maureen Wilson Team Award was presented to the Special Constabulary in recognition of their “outstanding performance carried out as a whole team throughout 2012”.

The Deborah Jeans Leadership Award went to Inspector Matt Wright, in recognition of his work in leading and championing dyslexia within the force.

The Commandant’s Cup, which goes to a special constable of the year, was presented to Inspector Samantha Ryall “in recognition of her dedication to the Special Constabulary”.

The Deirdre Newham Cup for Justice was presented to Liz Davies, who is a Victim Support Worker.

Liz is the first winner of this new award in recognition of her “hard work and dedication to victims of sexual violence, domestic abuse and families bereaved by homicide”.

The Hughes Cup for PCSO of the Year, was presented to PCSO Naomi Burkart, a Northampton PCSO, who has dedicated her time to community issues by organising engagement events with young people, tackling graffiti and street begging through the ‘Killing with Kindness’ campaign.
