Kingsthorpe lead the Group A standings after recording a convincing 7-1 home victory over Cold Ashby.

Although all the ties reached the 15th hole at least, Kingsthorpe were always in control as Anton Clarke, Adam Bly, Louis Wixon, Oliver Haywood, Peter Scott, Ian Townsend and Gary Hardy secured the points.

Ashby, who were unbeaten going into the contest, collected their only point thanks to a one-hole success for Paul White against Kev Purkis.

Priors Hall stay three points behind Kingsthorpe after beating Overstone by a single point at home.

The Corby club’s strong middle order made the difference as Andrew Ewing, Trevor Shiells, Paul Freeman and Ian Abrahams collected points, while Ray Shocklidge confirmed the team win with a half.

Group B

Wellingborough maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign as the defending champions recorded a 4-4 draw at Northampton.

Despite losing the opening tie on the 18th, Wellingborough looked set for a fourth successive victory after Mike Gilbrook, Duncan Cornish, Scott Fleming and Tim Veal won the next four matches.

Northampton showed plenty of fighting spirit in their first home outing of the year as Nick Hansell and Gareth Parker took games six and seven, before Ben Howell beat Gary Grimmitt on the 18th in the last tie.

Peterborough Milton proved far too strong for Kettering in their home match as they completed a 8-0 whitewash victory.

Big wins for Martin Humphries (7&5) and Rob Munro-Hall (7&6) set the tone for Milton as Mark Johnson, Howard May, Paul Law, Howard Boylan, Neil Brown and Scott O’Connor grabbed the other points.

Seniors Anglian League

Northamptonshire’s Seniors remain on course to defend their Anglian League title after picking up their second victory in two outings with a points difference win against Norfolk at Hunstanton GC.

Although Howard May and Brian O’Connell recorded narrow wins, it was the convincing nature of the other four victories which proved decisive after both sides claimed six points.

Richard Cole (three holes), Alan Linney (seven holes), Gary Slinn (five holes) and Malcolm Watkins (nine holes) meant the county enjoy a six-hole advantage.

Ladies County Week

Northamptonshire ladies team had little to cheer about during Ladies County Week as they lost all five matches at Frilford Heath GC in Oxfordshire.

Despite some big singles wins for Wellingborough’s Meghan MacLaren, an inexperienced county side suffered a series of narrow losses as Warwickshire took the honours. Next year’s event takes place at Northampton Golf Club.
