A man has been fined after admitting drunkenly shouting “piggy, piggy, piggy” at a police officer who took a can of beer from him.

Jordon Ross-Smith, aged 22, of Conway Close, Kings Heath, Northampton, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words at Northampton Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard Ross-Smith had been drinking when he was approached by an officer on July 31, who took the beer from him.

He also made hand gestures at the officer and refused to give them his full name.

Kevin Carter, mitigating, said: “The police officer’s conduct did not help matters. He took the beer from him without warning.

“But he accepts he used bad language, and two wrongs don’t make a right.”

Unemployed Ross-Smith was fined £50, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20. He told the court he would arrange to pay the fine once he had signed on.
