Jim Mallinder says Saints will be launching a worldwide search as they bid to replace departing assistant coach Paul Grayson.
And the director of rugby believes there are ‘hundreds of thousands’ of options at his disposal as he bids to bring in a man who can improve his side’s attacking game.
Grayson’s exit was confirmed on Tuesday, ending his 19-year association with the club as a player and a coach.
Academy boss Alan Dickens has stepped up to fill the void on a temporary basis, and Mallinder will not rush his decision on who to appoint on a permanent basis.
“I’d guess there’s hundreds of thousands of options because we’ll be looking worldwide for who we think is the best fit for the club,” said Mallinder.
“It’s just a case for us of getting the right person.
“I don’t think there’s any real rush.
“We’ve got to see who’s out there and if it takes to the end of the season then so be it, but we’ve got to make sure we get the right man into the position.
“It’s a very important job. I’m there to oversee everything.
“Dorian West is doing a cracking job in terms of the forwards and getting them motivated in the way we want them to play.
“The new man that comes in has got to do that with the backs and with our attacking game.”
